The gallery presents the first solo exhibition by Liv Dahl, the youngest artist to join the programme. Dahl paints the figure at the edge of dissolution: faces softened to the point of refusal, withheld from the viewer even as they are offered.
The title holds the exhibition's tone. These are portraits of demurral, of the long refusal that organises a life. Worked in oil and repeatedly blurred, the surfaces keep their subjects close and unreachable at once.
