Brunner & Sand is a contemporary art gallery in Zürich, representing eleven international artists across painting, sculpture, photography and installation. Founded in 2012, it works from a discreet space near the Kunsthaus and receives visitors by appointment.
Brunner & Sand was founded in Zürich in 2012 by Andrea Brunner and Lars Sand. From the outset the gallery set out to build a small, deliberate programme rather than a large one — a roster of artists bound less by medium or generation than by a shared sensibility: reticence, materiality, and an attention to what is withheld rather than what is shown.
The gallery keeps a deliberately low profile. It occupies a quiet second-floor space on Rämistrasse, a few steps from the Kunsthaus, and is open by appointment only. Rather than a public shopfront, it works as a place for slow looking — for collectors, curators and writers who come to spend time with the work.
Through the winter the gallery maintains a small seasonal room within the Hotel Castell in Zuoz, in the Upper Engadin, again by appointment. It works closely with museums and private collections across Europe, North America and Asia on placements, loans and long-term commissions, and takes part in a small number of international fairs each year.
Brunner & Sand is a member of the Verband Schweizerischer Galerien (VSG).

The Gallerists
Andrea Brunner studied art history and German literature at the University of Zürich. Before founding the gallery she was a curator at Kunsthalle Basel (1996–2004) and an independent curator working with institutions across the German-speaking world. She founded Brunner & Sand with Lars Sand in 2012, and leads the exhibition programme and the gallery's museum relationships.
Lars Sand was born in Copenhagen. He worked for two decades as a publisher and private dealer specialising in Northern European postwar painting and photography, and has lived in Zürich since 2009. He founded Brunner & Sand with Andrea Brunner in 2012, and leads the gallery's secondary-market practice and publications.
